VOCATION SUNDAY

“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:37-38)

Every year the Diocese sets aside the first week of September to be Vocation Sunday.  It is a time to remember all Clergy and Pastors in our Diocese and to challenge more people to respond to the vocation of full-time ministry.  It is also a time to invest into the lives of those who are called to serve God as pastors and missionaries.  All contributions will be channeled to the Diocesan Vocation Fund for theological training and equipping of our diocesan workers.

Similar with other vocations like engineering or medicine, the journey of a full-time pastor or missionary is a process.  Like associates, internship or housemanship (residency), these young seminary graduates would begin their curacy in churches learning the art of shepherding and leadership for a period of time.  Then they will be sent out to pastor the churches entrusted to them.

In my own journey in pastoring, I thank God for my home church for their support and allowing me to shepherd and lead them.  They encouraged me as I develop courage to lead.  They bear with me when I made mistakes.  They supported me to make changes for the betterment of the church in moving forward.  The years serving together made us a stronger church and for me a better shepherd and leader.  They were truly God’s gift to me as I was to them.

Therefore, I encourage you to invest into the lives of the men and women who responded to the life-long vocation of full-time ministry.  Their journey begins now.  Your continuing support will also enable us to equip more workers for the harvest field.  Every gift is a seed sown into the lives of the servants of God.  You may not know them personally, but your generosity will be remembered – by them and most of all, the Lord of the Harvest.
