Awakened and arise

“And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. For you it is a day of blowing the trumpets.” Number 29:1

In the past week, the Jews celebrated the Jewish New Year of 5775 on the evening of 24th September in Israel. The Jewish New Year begins with the Feast of Trumpets. There was blowing of the shofars, a great sound of awakening. It is a significant time chosen by God, to reveal Jesus as the Light of the world.

Whenever there is a need of sounding of the trumpet, it means attention is needed to be drawn to something or someone important. In school or class, when an alarm is sounded, it means there is going to be a change of class, a change of period. In a war zone, when the siren is sounded, it is a warning to take shelter.

In the midst of all that is going on in the nations, in the worldwide and local Church, in our families and our own lives, perhaps it is a season also for us to be “awakened”. To be made aware of something or someone important we should take notice of. During this season of the Feast of the Trumpets and the Day of Atonement, it is appropriate to for us to be awakened to hear what the Lord wants to speak to us in our circumstances. When the Lord speaks and we hear, we need to respond with action. Whether it is responding by repentance, change of direction in life, avoiding some potential harmful circumstances or taking some positive and definite actions, it requires us to arise! Spend this week determined to hear from God for a word from Him. When He speaks, let us listen intently and obey. He has our highest well-being in His mind.
