Words by our Priest-in-Charge:
He called me son
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ” Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Galatians 4:6-7
To be able to call God our Father, is a privilege that God extends to us. Who could image that the God of the Universe, would allow us to call Him, “Father”. But to be called by this God as sons, is an honour. I often hear fathers who are real proud of their children say to others, “That’s my son!” or “That’s my daughter!”. When a father does that, it is always with a sense of pride and pleasure.
I am writing this on our daughter, Zaccaria’s 13th birthday. I remember the day she was born. I recall the 13 years of her life and smile and say, “That’s my daughter!”. I just came back from doing the 1st session of the Ellel Ministries Modular A1 tonight. I led in one song this evening when we started the session. It was the worship song that I used to sing to my daughter while putting her to sleep at night when she was little. All these reminded me of how our Heavenly Father often looks upon us. He looks upon us and with great pride, calls us His sons. You see, we are all His sons through faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:26). When God would call us sons, He takes pride in us.
If we are sons, we are also heirs to the inheritance that God has prepared for us. What privilege! What honour! How comforting it is to know that God is so proud of us not because of our own merits – what we have done, nor affected by our shortcomings – what we have failed to do. We are His because He created us, because He chooses to love us in Christ Jesus from the foundation of the world. Today, if you are in doubt whether God loves you or whether He still loves you. Rest assured, God will not forget to love you!
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:15-16
He called you, son. Didn’t He?
