Get Out of Jail Free

“I will say to the prisoners, `Go free!` and to those who are in darkness, `Come out to the light!` They will be like sheep that graze on the hills.” Isaiah 49:9, GNB

Do you remember the liberating card from the game of Monopoly?

The defeat of Satan, by Jesus on the Cross, has opened the prison doors that were constraining our lives, now giving opportunity for freedom and for restoration from all the damaging effects of spiritual captivity. It was a finished work of liberation from the vicious ruler of this world, for all those who acknowledge Jesus as the perfect Saviour.

Today, the healing and deliverance ministry of Jesus is essentially the important journey, for each believer, through those open doors into the abundant life which He came to give us. When someone has lived in the twilight world of a prison for many years it can be hard to have the full understanding of how to walk, and even the courage to move at all, from what is known to what is unknown.

Discarding the familiar routines of prison life can take time; there is a perverse comfort in hanging on to something of a long-standing identity, however wrong it may have been. There is an enemy who desires to keep us in the dark, but Jesus is ready to take our hand and lead us into increasing light. We may also need help from those who are able to point out the path to freedom and to encourage us to shed the constraints of the past.
