Words by our Priest-in-Charge:
Priceless Love
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
I just stepped into my room, put my bags down. Somehow the news over the television caught my attention. “Shooting in Kenyan Mall”. The shooters identified themselves as Somalis. The whole attack was not aimed at taking hostages and making demands, but just shoots civilians, including women and children! One of the gunmen said to a survivor, “I am from Somali. We don’t normally shoot women and children, but because you shoot ours.”
We often hear, the love of God is free, but it is not cheap. It cost God His only begotten Son. This love is priceless. It does not have a price tag on it, we cannot pay for it. In fact, we are not required to pay for it. It has been freely given to us. Though it does not cost us, the recipients of that love, it cost a high price to the One who loves, Jesus. It cost Jesus so much that no price tags could be attached to it. It refuses to be tagged with a price when it is given to us. That’s the Love of God.
Love gives without demanding. Love pays whatever price necessary to express itself. Love gives with putting down conditions – it is always unconditional. Love seeks the highest good of the recipients so much so that sometimes it doesn’t make sense, humanly speaking. Love is always given unilaterally. It is initiated by the lover, not demanded upon.
On the other hand, hatred is demanding. It demands repayment of evil done and it always takes and never gives. It knows no mercy and will not show any. Hatred is bred in injustice, sins and hurts. It cannot be taken away unless it meets with Love – the Love of God. It cannot be removed nor overcome unless healing comes.
Yet, we have a choice. Either come to One who is Love and receive from Him that amazing love, experience it for ourselves, or remain in the painful world of hatred. The world today needs to not only know intellectually, but encounter at an experiential level the liberating, transforming and healing love of God. Have you experienced it? Are you experiencing it continuously? Would you like to spread it? Your choice.
