Week 1 – 5 January 2014

The thing about “The Past”

1. Putting the past into perspective

2. Learn from the past, not live in the past

Isaiah 42:8-9

“I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images. Behold, the former things have come to pass,And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

3. When not to remember the past, and not held in bondage by the past

Isaiah 43:18-19

“Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

4. When to remember the past, and take comfort in the hope we have in an unchanging God

Isaiah 46:9-10

“Remember the former things of old,For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure”
