Week 16 – 20th April 2014

He has Conquered!

  1. Conquering

  • To conquer : to defeat, to overcome, to gain control through great effort of force
  • I Corinthians  15:54b-56
Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Conquering is more than just to defeat, but to occupy the area where conquest takes place

  1. He conquered death

  • 2 Timothy 1:10
“…the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel..”
  • Jesus defeated death and in its place, brought life abundant – John 10:10 . “..I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
  • Conquering death by love
  • Roman 8:37-39
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
  • Jesus defeated death without compromising with it – compromise does not save
“Your covenant with death will be annulled, And your agreement with Sheol will not stand; When the overflowing scourge passes through, Then you will be trampled down by it.” Isaiah 28:18

  1. Enter and remain in conquest

  • Jesus conquered by His love and through His love, established a lasting covenant with God
  • We too enter and remain in conquest through His love, the very covenant which He has established with the Father
  • I John 3:14
“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.”
  • Stay in conquest by obedience motivated by love
    I John 4:21
“And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.”
  • Deuteronomy 7:1-2; 9-12
“When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you, and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them…..“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face. 11 Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them. 12 “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers

  1. A new Commandment… A New Covenant

  • John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
