Call to Discipleship

  1. Discipleship is about “followership”
    • Matthew 28:18-20
    • And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ” All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen
    • A disciple is one being called to follow and sent out to accomplish the mission of the Master
    • Luke 9:1-2
    • Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
  2. A disciple of Jesus has the authority and power of Jesus
    • It is in the calling – As God calls, He defines our purpose and destiny (Judges 6:12)
    • And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
    • It is in the commissioning
    • It is in the Covenant – His promises to us
  3. We are all called to discipleship 

    • We are called to fruitfulness. John 15:16
    • You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
    • We are called to be disciples makers
    • Discipleship is the essential key to the growth of our spiritual lives, witness of the Church and succession of Leadership
  • We are called to fruitfulness. John 15:16
