Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith. Acts 6:7
One of the ways to build up the human spirit is evangelism. After a person has received ministry of inner healing, the person’s spirit needs to be nurtured into strength and health. One of the ways to build up the spirit of a man into shape the way that God has intended it to be, is through sharing of their experience of God’s love and goodness in their lives.
Evangelism nourishes for at least the following reasons:
- It glorifies God by talking about His goodness
- It shifts our attention away from ourselves to focus on Jesus
- It touches the heart of God who desires that none should perish
- As we preach the gospel, Jesus promises His presence in our lives (Matthew 28:20)
- We have an opportunity to relate to others and engage in community life
- It opens the doors for the Holy Spirit to work through us
- etc…
God has used many imperfect men and women to accomplish His will and purpose. In the course of allowing God to use their lives, these men and women’s lives have also been eternally transformed , e.g. Mary, Jonah, David, etc.
The Church comprises of imperfect men and women who are on their respective healing and restoration journey. It is a community, if we are honest with ourselves, highly dependent on God and His grace. Evangelism is not telling someone “I’m ok, you are not. So, you need Jesus!” But it is saying, “I have found this wonderful Jesus in times of my needs and He continues to be a blessing to me. Do you like to know Him too?”
Desert Stream had been called to be a stream in the desert. We must avail ourselves to God for His mission of reaching the world with His words and good news of salvation. Would you consider being part of that mission of reaching the lost and suffering? By disciplining ourselves to do what is on God’s heart (not just carrying out a program), we will ourselves experience Him in deeper measure.
